The Jigawa State House of Assembly has constituted a special committee to investigate the recent killing of a bystander by a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, during an incidence involving NURTW members and official of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.
The lawmakers’ investigative panel was raised ahead of a prior five-day ultimatum issued by the Network for Human Rights, a Jigawa state based human rights group seeking for a proper investigation into the incidence.
Member representing Dutse Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Musa Sule Dutse moved the motion asking the House not to let the matter go unchecked.
Seconding the motion, member representing Kiyawa Constituency, Ado Idris Andaza expressed concern over the killing of the innocent driver and urged the House to take necessary measures to avoid future occurrence.
In their separate contributions, members representing Gumel constituency Sani Isiya and that of Kanya Babba, Haladu Usman, called on the House to constitute a Special Committee to investigate the matter so as to ensure the protection of lives and properties of the common man.
Representative of Kazaure constituency, Bala Hamza Gada was selected to chair the Special Committee with Ibrahim Husaini Kadeta, Ado Idris Andaza, and Musa Sule Dutse would serve as members, while Isyaku Ado would serve as Secretary.
The Speaker of the House, Isah Idris Gwaram said the Special Committee is to investigate the cause of the incident, which led to the killing of the driver and report back to the Assembly within one week.
