Jigawa Fire Service Directorate, says it has saved 250 lives and property worth over N755 million in various fire incidents recorded in 2023 across that state.
Director of the Agency, Ibrahim Gumel, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, in Dutse.
Mr Gumel expressed regret that 50 lives and property estimated at over N215 million were lost in various incidents in 2023.
He explained that 46 animals were also lost, after felling into a well, while four others were saved.
“The service responded to 160 fire calls and 45 rescue calls from different parts of the state.
“About 250 lives were lost in fire incidents, drowning and road crashes during the last year,” he said.
Mr Gumel advised residents of the state to be cautious while handling inflammable materials, adding that it would continue to sensitise and enlightenment to the public on the dangers posed by harmattan winds as it relates to fire.
