The Zaria Local Government Area chapter of the Jama’atu Nasrul Islam has dragged the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli, to court for allegedly cornering its N20 million cheque issued to it by the Federal Ministry of Transport.
JNI Zazzau chapter said the cheque was paid in favour of the organization as compensation for taking-over their land at Jama’atu College of Arabic (Boys) for the extension of the Kaduna-Zaria railway as part of the Ibadan-Kano railway project.
In the suit, filed on April 25 at the Kaduna State High Court, the chairman and secretary of the JNI Zazzau Chapter, Zaharadeen Maccido and Usman Maccido respectively, demanded the release of the cheque.
The plaintiffs claimed that the emir had dissolved the JNI boards as a way of bullying them to silence.
The plaintiffs therefore sought “A declaration that the action of the Defendants in withholding first Plaintiff’s cheques totalling over twenty-one million Naira issued to it by the Federal Ministry of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Transport as Indemnity/Compensation for the right of way for the rail modernisation project at the Kaduna corridor of the Ibadan-Kano rail project is unlawful.
“An order directing the Defendants to release to the plaintiff forthwith, its cheques totalling over twenty-one million Naira issued to it by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Transport as Indemnity/compensation for the right of way for the rail modernization project at the Kaduna-Zaria corridor of the Ibadan-Kano rail project.”
