The Jama’atil Nasirul Islam, JNI, Jigawa Chapter has urged Muslims in the state to give out Zakat to support the needy and other less privileged people in the society.
The state Secretary of JNI, Muhammad Babangida made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday.
Mr Babangida explained that Zakat as one of the five pillars of Islam, was mandatory on all Muslims endowed with the means to give it out.
NAN reports that it covers certain percentage of one’s funds, livestock and farm produce.

He said apart from cash, Zakat is given out from guinea corn, millet, maize, rice, wheat, sesame, groundnut, beans, date palms, livestock among others.
“Zakat is very fundamental in Islam and every Muslim who possesses the means, is expected to observe it,” the Secretary said.
Mr Babangida added that any Muslims that gives Zakat to the poor, Allah will increase his wealth and safeguard him from calamities.
He said that the JNI would continue to sensitise and mobilise Muslims in observing Islamic teachings and values.
