JUST IN: Court grants Muaz Magaji bail

A magistrate’s court in Kano State has granted bail to a former commissioner of Works, Muaz Magaji.

Mr Magaji, a critic of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, is facing a four-count charge, bordering on defamation of character, intentional insult, injurious falsehood and inciting disturbance against the governor.

The charges, to which he pleaded not guilty on Monday, contravened Sections 392, 399 and 114 of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Kano State 1999.

Ruling on his bail application on Friday, Magistrate Aminu Gabari, granted the prayers of the accused by granting him bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties.

One of the sureties, the court said, must be the village head of Sarauniya, while the other one should either be Hisbah Commander or Chief Imam of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The court also requested Mr Magaji to submit his international passport, while the two sureties are to provide their passport photographs to the court.

Mr Gabari further said the registry of the court would visit to ascertain the sureties’ residences as part of the bail conditions.

He, therefore, adjourned the case to March 2 for further mention.
