Boko Haram terrorists have shot dead a policeman and wounded several others when they launched attack on police convoy on Tuesday.

The ambush occurred at at Kubwa village along Damboa-Biu highway in Damboa Local government Area of Borno State at about 2:15pm.

Police source who was not authorized to speak on the matter said about four policemen were wounded in the ambush.

“They ambushed police convoy led by Area Commander of Biu, and succeeded killing a policeman and inflicted injuries on many others, including an officer.

“The victims are currently receiving treatment at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital,” the source added.

Police on Wednesday confirmed the incident in a terse statement.

“Yesterday at about 10:30hrs, a police patrol vehicle from Biu Area Command on investigation activity to Maiduguri, were ambushed and attacked by persons reasonably believed to be Boko Haram terrorists at Kubuwa village in Damboa LGA. The team fought gallantly, and were able to repel the attackers who ran into the bush with some of them sustaining injuries. However we lost a policeman, while another sustained gunshot injuries. The victim and the fallen policeman were taken to General hospital Damboa, and the injured policeman is responding to treatment,” said the statement.
