President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over a security meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Service Chiefs and heads of some other security agencies were present at the meeting.

It was also reported that the agenda of meeting is not yet made public but it is expected to look into security situation in the country and a review of security strategy.

Speaking with State House correspondent shortly after the meeting, the Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas, explained that the withdrawal was to allow the military to focus on its primary duty of defending the nation against external aggression.

“It is the work of the police to handle internal security since Nigeria is not at war.

“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will support the police to provide internal security.

“Also, you will remember that additional 10,000 personnel were approved for the police recently for recruitment,” he added.
