President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended Ishaq Modibbo-Kawu as the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, sources confirmed to DAILY NIGERIAN on Friday.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspension followed a recommendation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, through the Office of the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, OSGF.
The source said the suspension letter directed that the most senior director in the commission should take over, pending the completion of the trial.
“To this end, Armstrong Idachaba, the director of the Broadcast Monitoring department will serve as acting,” the source said.
A staffer at NBC who is not authorized to speak to the media told DAILY NIGERIAN that Mr Modibbo-Kawu had since packed up his belongings in the office.
Recall that the D-G had been under investigation by the ICPC over alleged fraud in the N2.5 billion paid to Pinnacle Communications Ltd as “Seed Grant” for the take-off of the Digital Switch-Over Programme oin the country.
It was gathered that the ICPC had recommended for Mr Modibbo-Kawu’s suspension since September 2019 through a letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.
