For the first time since the creation of the four new Kano Emirates, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Thursday met with the new emirs at the Passing-Out-Parade, POP, ceremony of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil’s Regular Course Cadets in the state.
Recall that on May 8, 2019, Governor Abdullahi Ganduge had created four new emirates: Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya, appointing Aminu Ado-Bayero, Dr Tafida Abubakar, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II and Ibrahim Abdulkadir as their respective emirs.
During the Thursday’s POP ceremony, DAILY NIGERIAN correspondent who was at the event observed that after arriving at the venue of the ceremony, Emir Sanusi did not exchange pleasantries with the other emirs, neither did the emirs came to pay homage to Mr Sanusi, who is the chairman, Council of Emirs in the state.
Our correspondent also gathered that five seats were officially reserved for the emirs, but in what appeared to be a protocol afterthought, Mr Sanusi’s seat was swapped with that of the Emir of Kuje of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Emir Sanusi was thereafter provided with another seat in another stand.
Our reporter also gathered that as Emir Sanusi sat down, none of the four emirs, including that of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero, who is his blood relation acknowledged Mr Sanusi’s presence.
One of the palace guards of the emir of Bichi, who took DAILY NIGERIAN correspondent in confidence, said the four emirs did not go and pay homage to Mr Sanusi, “because he too did not greet them when he arrived”.
“Forget him. We will not greet him. He is not worth our greetings. He should have greeted the four emirs who he met here. How would they go and greet him? no,” said the palace guard.
When contacted, one of Emir Sanusi’s palace guards told our reporter that, “we don’t care if they don’t come and pay homage to our emir.
“We will not take that seriously. Since our Emir has sat on his seat, we have no worry whether they salute him or not,” he said.
