President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the much-awaited list of ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

According to a report by TheCable, the list was sent to the Senate on Monday evening via executive communication and is expected to be read on the floor of the senate on Tuesday.

It could be observed that the number of the nominees is unusually higher than 36, as stipulated by the country’s constitution.

A source close to the presidency said the president decided to increase the number to 42 by one more per each of the six geopolitical zones we have.

Moreover, contrary to speculations, only about 12 ministers will be re-appointed from the former cabinet.

The senate is expected to screen the nominees before it proceeds on a two-month recess on Thursday.
