The Kano State House of Assembly has set up an eight-man committee to investigate Emir Muhammad Sanusi II over alleged violations of culture and traditions of the emirate.
The investigation followed a petition submitted before the house by the Kano State for Promotion of Education and Culture and one Mohammed Mukthar, over attitude and character of the emir which they claimed was in dispute to the culture and religion.

The petition was read before the House by Zubairu Hamza-Masu, the member representing Sumaila Local Government Constituency.
Consequently, the Speaker of the House, Abdulaziz Garba-Gafasa, mandated the five-man Standing House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions and three others to investigate the allegations.
The committee, which was headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hamisu Chidare, is to submit its reports within one week.
According to the House, the committee would also recommend appropriate actions to be taken against the Emir.
Earlier, the member representing Dala Local Government Constituency, Lawan Usaini objected the motion and prayed the speaker to allow for the reading of the content of the petitions before the House.
However, the Speaker rejected his prayer on the premise that section 3(b) of the House rules had empowered a committee to investigate the matter and submit its report before it without necessarily reading out a petition at a plenary.
