The major streets of Kaduna and its environs were deserted on Monday as security operatives enforced the 24-hour-curfew imposed on the state by the government.
The Punch reports that from Sabon-Tasha, in the southern part of the state, to Kawo in the northern part, the streets were devoid of the usual vehicular or human traffic.
But in spite of the curfew, there were still alleged killings in some parts of the state like Narayi in Kaduna South Local Government Area where it was learnt that men in military fatigue invaded the area and killed three persons.
The deceased were buried Monday morning by relatives at the Narayi cemetery, according to an eyewitness.
Several gunshoots were heard between 12:00 AM and the early hours of 5:00 AM in the area (Narayi).
An eyewitness who craved anonymity said men dressed in military fatigue invaded the area, shot and killed three persons.
According to him, after the men in military uniforms invaded and shot dead three persons, they escaped from the area in Keke Napep.
“I’m at the Narayi cemetery where relatives are burying three persons killed yesterday night.
“Eyewitnesses are saying soldiers killed them. There is a mammoth crowd at the burial ground. Security operatives are nowhere here, the tension is building up,” the eyewitness said.
The curfew imposed on the metropolis and its environs by the state was being complied with as residents stayed indoors.
Our correspondent, who monitored the situation, observed that residents stood in front of their homes, mostly in groups, discussing the incident.
Burnt tyres littered some of the streets from bonfires lit during the Sunday unrest.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai was said to have gone round the affected areas and also visited those injured during the crisis at St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, Kakuri and the Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital in the city centre.
The governor was accompanied by top government functionaries and the All Progressives Congress Kaduna Central Senatorial Candidate, Uba Sani, among others.
As of the time filing this report, a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council was ongoing to review the situation and give updates on the security situation in the state.
