The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday resolved to write the Speaker of the House of Representatives on the protracted suspension of a member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin.
On September 28, 2016, the House of Representatives suspended Mr Jibrin for 180 legislative days, following allegations of budget padding and corruption against the Speaker and some principal officers.
But raising a matter of urgent public importance on Wednesday, a member representing Kiru in the Assembly, Kabiru Dashi, said Mr Jibrin’s constituents have been deprived of representation for the past one year.
Mr Dashi urged the Assembly to look into the plight of the Kiru/Bebeji constituents and call on the House of Representatives to recall their representative from suspension.
He said considering the fact that the one year suspension period had already elapsed, the House of Representatives should recall him to enable the constituents have a representation in the House.
Seconding, a member representing Rano, Alhassan Rurum, corroborated Mr Dashi’s position, saying it was high time Mr Jibrin resumed from suspension.
Mr Rurum, who is the immediate-past Speaker, urged the Assembly to prevail on the state government and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress to intervene in the matter.
The legislators took turn to second the motion, after which the House unanimously adopted the resolution.
The Speaker, Yusuf Ata, therefore directed the clerk of the House to immediately write the Speaker of House of Representatives to recall Mr Jibrin from suspension.
