The District Head of Dawakin Tofa in Kano State, Maikano Rabiu, has died of COVID-19 complication on Thursday.
A family member, Sanusi Bature, who confirmed the death to DAILY NIGERIAN, said the deceased died at Kwanar Dawaki isolation center.
According to him, the deceased fell sick about two weeks ago and was admitted at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH.
Mr Bature added that while on admission, the late district head was tested positive for COVID-19 at the AKTH and referred to the isolation center for treatment of the infection.
“While at the isolation facility, his body condition improved. But today, he passed on around 9: 00 am.
“We are now on our way to Dawakin Tofa Local Government for burial, around 2:pm,” he said.
Mr Bature also stated that the burial service would be conducted by personnel of the Nitional Center for Disease Control, NCDC.
Born 23rd December, 1949 late Mr Rabiu was a veterinary doctor trained in Europe. He was a member Federal House of Representatives in 1983 and Senator-elect under the defunct UNCP in 1998.
Mr Maikano retired from active service in 2003 as AGM Corporate Banking at defunct Bank of the North and re-joined politics where he served as Special Adviser to Gov Shekarau on Economic Affairs and Private Sector Development.
He was Chairman, Kano Microfinance Banks before he was turbaned as the Dallatun Bichi District Head of Dawakin Tofa in January 2020.
