Kano State government, in collaboration with Center for Awareness on Justice and Accountability, CAJA, has signed Youth Development Advocacy Cluster, a policy framework that will guide commitments to youths development in the state.
Speaking immediately after the signing of the policy documents, the state’s outgoing commissioner of Sports and Youth Development, Kabiru Lakwaya, applauded the ingenuity of CAJA and other stakeholders in the cluster for complementing government efforts with the formation of master plan on youth development.
According to him, youth development in any society can not be overemphasized taking into consideration that they have constituted the larger population.
According to him, coming of with such policies would enhance and guide youth productivity in a bid to achieve the desired development.
He noted that signing the policy is timely as it came at the time when youth restiveness had become a source of concern, adding that the move would surely address social problems associated with youths towards achieving greater development of the state and the nation as a whole.
Mr Lakwaya, who endorsed the adoption of the policy on behalf of Kano state government, assured full implementation of the road map that would address major youth crisis in Kano.
He said Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is fully commitment to domesticate the document and set precedence for its full implementation.
On his part, the Executive Director of CAJA, Kabiru Dakata, advocated for effective implementation of newly developed youth development policy framework in Kano to address youth restiveness and other mundane challenges facing the younger generation in the state.
Mr Dakata who emphasized on the growing population of younger generation who are lacking basic means of sustenance for their livelihood, worried by the negative impact in the society.
The Executive Director, specifically stressed the increase in cases of drug abuse, unemployment, theft and other negative tendencies rampant among the youth in the state, cautioned that such societal disorder could trigger a large scale challenge, if urgent action was not taken to nip it in the bud.
Mr Dakata explained that CAJA collaboration with relevant youth organisations and other stakeholders with support from Youth Alive Foundation and USAID, have developed a comprehensive policy framework that address peculiar issues bothering the youth in the state.
He however urged Kano state government not to only sign the policy document but also ensure full implementation, so that it provides sustainable means of livelihood to growing youth community and prevent restiveness.
