Kano State government has debunked rumours making the rounds that it renamed Northwest University after late elder statesman, Yusuf Maitama Sule.
Hours after Maitama Sule’s burial, rumours began to circulate on social media that the state government had renamed the university after him.
Reacting to the rumour, the spokesman to the Kano State governor, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, said the state government has not renamed the university after late Maitama Sule.
He also said state government has not yet renamed any structure after the late First Republic Minister and former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
“The issue of immortalization will be deliberated at the Executive Council Meeting on Thursday, but the state government has not renamed anywhere after late Dan Masani.
“It is just rumours that the state government has renamed Northwest university or any other place. We will know about the issue in the outcome of the Council Meeting,” Mr Yakasai added.
He explained that the Executive Council Meeting, which was to hold on Wednesday, was shifted to Thursday as the state governor relocated to the residence of deceased to receive sympathisers.
In his tribute to Maitama Sule, Senate President, Bukola Saraki called on the federal and Kano governments to immortalize late Maitama Sule.
