Kano govt begins execution of court order, shuts Abduljabbar’s mosques, school, confiscates books

The Kano State Government has executed the consequential orders issued by an Upper Sharia Court Judge, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, in a judgement against a fiery Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru-Kabara.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Sarki-Yola, in a judgement on December 15, sentenced Mr Abduljabbar to death by hanging after the court found him guilty of making blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, in some of his preachings.

The trial judge had also ordered the state government to close the convict’s two mosques, located at Filin Mushe and Sharada, and his school — all in the Kano metropolis.

Mr Sarki-Yola similarly banned the use of Mr Abduljabbar’s preachings in all radio stations and sale at multimedia downloading outlets in the state.

He also ordered for the confiscation and transfer to the state library all his 189 books he tendered before the court.

On Friday, it was gathered, the state government executed the orders through the deputy sheriff of the state High Court on Friday.

It was also gathered that the two mosques and school belonging to Mr Abduljabbar had already been closed as armed security agents were seen guarding the places.

Similarly, this newspaper gathered that the 189 books tendered by the convict during the trial had been moved to the state library in compliance with the order.

In a chat with journalists after the judgement, the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Musa Lawan, warned the public against flouting the court order, stressing that anybody found wanting would be prosecuted.
