Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje of All Progressive Congress, on Saturday, shunned a gubernatorial debate organised by the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mambayya, and 10 other civil society organizations.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the governor neither sent a representative nor apology for his absence.
But, the governorship candidates of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Abba Yusuf, Salihu Takai of People’s Redemption Party, PRP, and Nasir Mukhtar of Legacy Party of Nigeria, LPN, attended the debate.
During his presentation, Mr Yusuf said his party would embark in politics without bitterness, adding that his major priorities would be on education, women empowerment, youths and the civil servants.
According to him, his government would continue from where the government of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso stopped on education and empowerment.
Mr Yusuf also vowed to complete the 44 local government roads that were started under the leadership of Mr Kwankwaso.
He added that he would revitalise all the water systems in the state, due to their relevance in agriculture, industrialization and health benefit.
On his part, Mr Takai said his administration would focus on empowerment of youths by encouraging them to begin talent-hunt and skills-acquisition trainings.
According to him, some of the areas to focus on include carpentry and electricity, which he believed is profitable.
He added that a lot of industries are now looking for people with these talents to offer.
Also speaking, Mr Mukhtar of LNP said his administration would focus on the economy, saying his main target is to improve the economy of the state.
Mr Mukhtar recalled that when he was a commissioner of agriculture he introduced a target of 1000 tunes of wheat and he was able to achieve 75% at the end of his tenure.
Mr Mukhtar also said he would block all influx of drugs that are commonly abused by youth and empower them as a reformation strategy.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that at the end of the session, only the PDP candidate was able to present a hardcopy document of his action plan.
