The member, a representing Kano Municipal in the Kano State House of Assembly, Salisu Gwangwazo, has announced his defection to All Progressive Congress APC, from Peoples Democratic Party, APC.
Mr Gwangwazo, popularly known as Alhajin Baba, announced his defection in a letter sent to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari, on Friday.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Kano State House of Assembly, Uba Abdullahi, said the lawmaker decided to leave PDP due to leadership crisis that rocked the party
“The member cited that his decision to join the APC is based on the fact that there exist a faction in the leadership division of the PDP both at state and national levels, stating that the factions in the party make it impracticable to party activities hence his defection,” part of the statement reads.
According to the statement, the Speaker congratulated the Mr Gwangwazo for joining the ruling party and assured him that APC would carry him and his people along on all.
Mr Chidari said that the leadership style of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is an all inclusive system where every member of the party has a stake in the overall development of the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN recalls that Mr Gwangwazo served as chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government before he was elected to represent Kano Municipal in the state House of Assembly in 2011, under All Nigeria People Party ANPP.
He lost re-election in 2015 when he defected to PDP, alongside former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau.
He was then re-elected in 2019 under PDP when he parted ways with Mr Shekarau and joined PDP Kwankwasiyya.
