The Kano State House of Assembly, on Monday, suspended the elected Chairman of Danbatta Local Government Council, Idris Zago, for allegedly revealing the state’s government information.
The suspension order followed a motion of urgent public importance presented before the assembly by a member representing Nasarawa Local Government Constituency, Ibrahim Gama.
Mr Gama said the Chairman was allegedly found guilty of misconduct by revealing government’s classified information and breaching oath of office.
According to him, Mr Zago had also failed to inaugurate his Supervisory Councillor and the Council’s Secretary.
The lawmaker said that the need to suspend the council’s chairman was necessary due to his violation of the 2006 Local Government act in the state.
Following series of deliberations, the legislatures unanimously adopted the motion and ordered for the immediate suspension of the chairman for six months, pending on the outcome of an investigation.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Assembly had ordered the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs to investigate the allegations and present its reports in two months.
The House also ordered the Vice Chairman of the local government, Musa Danbatta to take over the affairs of the council pending conclusion of the investigation.
The House, therefore, instructed all the elected Chairmen in the state who have not yet sworn in their Supervisory Councillors and Secretaries to do so within 24 hours.
