It was a bleak Saturday morning at Diso Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State when a housewife, simply identified as Hauwa, killed her two children over dispute with her husband, Ibrahim Aminu.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that crisis reached the climax when Mr Aminu married a second wife.
In protest against the marriage, Hauwa killed her own children, Yusuf Ibrahim and Zahra’u Ibrahim, 5 and 3 years old respectively.
Sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the mother stabbed the children many times until they stopped breathing in the presence of her oldest daughter, Zainab who is 10 years old, who ran out screaming for help.
The source added that the suspect, who is currently at large, was said to have brutalized another woman in the neighbourhood before fleeing the scene.
The ward head of Diso area, Ahmad Bello, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying the incident occurred when the husband was at his new wife’s home early on Saturday.
The spokesman for Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna, also confirmed the incident, saying the command is investigating the matter.
Mr Haruna, a deputy superintendent of police, said the command would address a press conference as soon as investigations were completed, as they are collating details of the incident.
