The Kano chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Hisham Habib, has opposed the dissolution of the state exco by the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party, saying the decision was a siege to democratic norms.

The NNPP has gained momentum in the North, a few days after the plans of a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the party was made public.

On Wednesday, Mr Habib said the party welcomed Mr Kwankwaso’s entry but warned that there would be no automatic tickets for candidates.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that after the dissolution of the state excos nationwide, the party appointed Umar Doguwa, a ontime chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano and Mr Kwankwaso’s loyalist as the acting Kano chairman.

But in a statement on Thursday, Mr Habib described the decision as undemocratic siege to the party by the Kwankwaso-led group, Kwankwasiyya.

He also expressed concern that partisan politics is endangered if politicians can wriggle parties from those who have toiled for a long time.

Mr Habib maintained that the process has always been an all inclusive one and that progress can only be made if negotiations encompass and reflect stakeholders.

“The national leadership is aware of the challenges we faced for years while promoting the party, so we deserve a better approach,” Mr Habib said.

On the next line of action, he said consultations are being made on the best way forward that may include seeking redress in court or parting ways with party.
