Kano State government has approved the payment of N398, 919,800 to 27,268 candidates of WAEC, NECO and SIS examinations.
The government said the candidates passed the minimum requirements of the state qualifying examination.
Commissioner of Information, Youth and Culture, Muhammad Garba disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 72rd State Executive Council Meeting held at Kano Government House on Thursday.
Mr. Garba said only students with five credits, inclusive of English and Mathematics would benefit from the payment, saying the 44 local government councils in the state were directed to shoulder responsibility of such qualified candidates in their areas.
He said the decision was taken based on the three options presented to the council by the Ministry of Education.
He said the total approved expenditure by the council stood at N1,179, 780, 280 for differents programs and projects in the state.
The commissioner also said out of the amount, N774, 550, 000 million were set aside for drilling 789 hand pump boreholes and rehabilitation of 163 across the state.
He said the decision was aimed at alleviating the water scarcity facing some communities, adding that the state water treatment plants are upgrading to cover all nooks and corners of the state.
