A Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Wednesday dismissed a case filed by a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant, Jafar Bello, challenging the membership and candidature of Mohammed Abacha.
In an originating summon, Mr Bello alleged that Mr Abacha, son of former late Head of State, Sani Abacha, did not follow legal procedure to register his membership at local government and ward levels.
However, in a judgement via Zoom on Wednesday, Justice A. M. Liman disagreed with Mr Bello.
He held that there was a waiver by the national leadership of PDP, which the respondent submitted same to the court.
The presiding judge explained that the national leaders of PDP gave waiver to every candidate who intended to register with the party and be allowed to contest accordingly.
Mr Liman maintained that the waiver in question had covered Mr Abacha to contest in any position of party.
He also said the court agreed with the respondent’s submission that he was screened by national headquarters of PDP.
The court therefore dismissed the case and affirmed that Mr Abacha is legally a member of PDP.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the same court had last week to substitute Sadiq Wali’s name with Mr Abacha as governorship candidate of PDP in Kano.
