The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC, has urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the Local Government election in the state.
Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi, the commission’s chairman, who gave the advice while addressing stakeholders in Kano on Friday, said their campaign should be devoid of personal attacks.
He assured stakeholders that the commission would provide a level playing ground for all political parties participating in the elections.
Mr Malamfashi emphasized on the importance of fair play and transparency in the electoral process, ensuring that all parties have equal opportunity to participate.
He noted that the APC’s decision to participate, despite being a strong political party, indicates that they have confidence in the commission.
The chairman commended the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other political parties for their decision to participate in the Oct. 26 elections.
He said that following complaints by aspirants, the commission reviewed the nomination form fees for chairman from N10 million to N9 million and councilor from N5 million to N4 million.
Mr Malumfashi commended the media practitioners for their support since the commencement of preparation for the local government elections.
He urged the media to continue playing a crucial role in promoting awareness, particularly among rural communities to encourage their active participation in the democratic process.
“I implore the media to help educate rural dwellers on the importance of participating in the electoral processes,
“Your support is essential in ensuring the success of our democratic endeavours,” he said.
