Kano varsity introduces new academic programmes

Prof. Muhktar Kurawa, the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, says the institution will introduce more academic programmes to meet the educational needs of the state.

Mr Kurawa, who spoke at a media interactive session on Monday in Kano, said the University will also give priority to the welfare of its staff and students to promote academic excellence.

He said personnel and students welfare will remain paramount during his stewardship at the university.

Mr Kurawa expressed readiness to bring his wealth of experience to bear in running an open-day policy in the management of the state-owned university.

The VC promised to initiate sound policies and programmes to ensure that academic programmes offered by the university are accredited to enhance high students’ performances and academic excellence.

“We are geared towards capacity building of teachers and non-teaching staff through proper training to produce quality graduates.

“The University welcomes constructive advice and suggestions from stakeholders to enhance its operations,” he said.

While commending Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for viable projects initiated to transform the education sector, Mr Kurawa urged stakeholders to support the University to enable it to achieve its objectives.

He also called for the support of the staff and students to enable him move the University forward.

Mr Kurawa was appointed Vice Chancellor on Oct. 17 by the governing board of the institution.

Until his appointment, Mr Kurawa served as the Rector, Kano State Polytechnic, and Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Bayero University, Kano.
