17 Kano young men perish in accident along Zaria-Kano highway

Seventeen young men from Kano State have died in a ghastly motor accident along Zaria-Kano road on Saturday.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the accident occurred on Saturday evening when they were returning to Kano after attending the wedding of their friend in Kaduna.

It was gathered that they were travelling in a Kano Line bus when the ghastly accident occured.

Sadiq Abdullahi, a friend to one of the deceased, Umar Abba-Sheriff, said he received the news of his death around 8:00pm.

He said the sister of his late friend, Aisha, who confirmed the death to him, said he died on the spot.

Mr Abdullahi said eight of them were from Sani Mainagge area of Gwale Local Government area of the state.

This newspaper gathered that 11 of the victims died instantly, while the remaining six passed away in a hospital.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, as the telephone number of Muhammad Kangiwa, the spokesman of Kano command of Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, was switched off at the time of filing in this report.

In his condolence to the families of the deceased, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in a statement by spokesman, Abba Anwar, said “this is a great loss not only to their families or to the people of Sani Mainagge, of Gwale local government where they came from, but to all of us, the government and the people of Kano state”.

He noted that the incident was an act of Allah, saying, “Only Him can forgive them abundantly. We are therefore praying to Allah Almighty to grant them Jannatul Firdaus. May He forgive their wrongdoings and may He give their families the fortitude to bear the loss.”

“I am therefore, on behalf of the government and people of Kano state, commiserating with their families, people of Sani Mainagge, Gwale local government, friends and well wishers. Ours is to continue praying for the departed souls. Allahu Akbar,” he said.
