Kano Road and Traffic Agency, KAROTA on Thursday announced the sacking of one of its personnel, Jamilu Gambo, for allegedly slashing tyres of a trailer in Kano state.
Mr Gambo, according to statement by KAROTA spokesman, Nabilusi Kofar Na’isa, said the managing director of the agency, Baffa Dan’agundi, approved the dismissal of the officer.
He said the personnel was fired, following his unprofessional conduct at his duty post where he destroyed a trailer’s tyres as a result of argument between him and the driver of the vehicle.
The development, according to Mr Nabilusi, forced the closure of the Kano-Hadejia road by rioting truckers in solidarity to their member, causing traffic gridlock at the area.
The spokesman explained that the decision to sack the officer came after an emergency meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, where it was unanimously agreed that he should be relieved of his duties.
“The Managing Director Kano  Road and Traffic Agency, Hon. Baffa  Babba Dan’agundi appreciates the leadership of the NARTO Kano Branch for their quick intervention,” he said.
According to him, NARTO and the police saved the day by preventing mob action and breakdown of law and order.
“On behalf of the Agency, the managing director apologizes to the general public whose movements were delayed as a result of the incident.
“The agency also wish to announce that the sacked officer has been handed over to the police for further investigation and made to pay for the damages caused on the driver’s vehicle,” aded Mr Nabilusi.
