35 persons have so far been killed in a clash allegedly between Hausa and Adara youths at Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Our correspondent gathered that those who sustained various degrees of injury were taken to different hospitals located in the heart of Kaduna for treatment.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Kasuwa Magani is situated in the Southern part of the state, dominated by the native of Adara.
However, the area has over time become a weekly commercial hub where people of all tribes and religion converge to trade.
Although the real cause of the mayhem is yet to be ascertained, some residents of the area said the violence broke out when a Muslim mob allegedly beat up a Christian youth on suspicion of stealing from a Muslim shop.
Later, friends of the suspect, mostly Christians, staged a reprisal on the Muslim youth.
“As of last night, more than a dozen houses have been burnt while four people were killed,” Busu Aikhomu, a resident in the area, said.
However, another version said some of the youths were said to have been angered by the refusal of some of shop owners to allow them drop their wares in front of their shops which led to a verbal exchange that resulted in a free for all.
As people took to their heels, some of the youths torched some of the shops which led to commotion in the area.
Meanwhile, the state government had slammed a 24-hour curfew in the area
“The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Kasuwan Magani village.
“The imposition of the curfew is with immediate effect,” Samuel Aruwan, spokesman to the government, said in a statement..
However, Police have not commented on the development as at the time of filling this report.
