Katsina varsity shuts down Main Campus over banditry

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, has announced the shutting down of all activities of the institution on its Main Campus, following the increasing spate of bandit attacks in the local government area.

The order is contained in a Special Bulletin signed on Thursday by the acting Director, Public Relations and Protocols of the university, Habibu Matazu.

According to the bulletin, all the staff members of the institution should, henceforth, stop going to the Main Campus for official assignments till further notice.

 “The directive came through the office of the Registrar, Aliyu Dalha Kankia, following reports of banditry attack in the neighboring villages around the University Main Campus.

“The Vice Chancellor, Therefore, directed that all staff with any official engagement should stay at the University Take off Campus and do their work from Thursday August 6 till further notice.

“Members of the University Community would promptly be informed when to resume work at the main campus,” the publication noted.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that on Wednesday, the state is currently under bandits siege with multiple attacks occurring almost on a daily basis.

On Wednesday, Governor Aminu Masari, had briefed President Muhammadu Buhari over the development, saying that almost 34 local government areas of the state are currently under the control of bandits.

Speaking with State House Correspondents in Abuja after meeting with the president behind closed doors, the governor said although efforts were on to bring the cases of banditry to an end, activities of bandits were posing serious drawbacks to the government’s agricultural plans.

“Certainly, there is going to be some issues, because in the entire state, the nine local governments are affected out of 34,” Mr Masari said.
