Kebbi First Lady donates N2m for treatment of 10 cancer patients

The wife of Kebbi Governor, Dr.Zainab Bagudu has donated the sum of two million naira for the treatment of ten cancer patients.

Mrs Bagudu who is the founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, MCF, made the donation in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday at a workshop for the development of the state’s strategic cancer plan organized by the state’s Ministry of Health, in conjunction with MCF.

In her address at the event, Mrs Bagudu said Medicaid, the Kebbi State government and other relevant stakeholders were vigorously engaged in the fight against cancer by not only providing awareness but intervention to ensure treatment of the cancer patients in the state.

”Our effort is not only on creating awareness but intervention to cancer patients. We will work vigorously to ensure the success of the state through capacity building to health workers in organising different workshops and seminars.

“Medicaid is working with Dr Ramatu Hassan who is a consultant and Kebbi State government to come up with a strategic and effective cancer plan for the State,” she added.

She thanked Governor Atiku Bagudu for his support to cancer patients and his struggle to reduce the trend.

The first lady, therefore, called on the participants drawn from different organizations and local government areas to equip themselves with adequate knowledge from the workshop and also join hands with the traditional institutions for the fight against cancer.

Mrs Bagudu also commended president Buhari in the field of cancer control, saying: “we now have situation where physiotherapy is much cheaper by 40%, we have more treatment centers, example is the recently commissioned state of the arts treatment center in Lagos.”
