A former Nigerian Senate president, Ken Nnamani, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Nnamani once turned down President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to serve as his running mate in 2011.
His defection is coming a few days after the defection of a senator representing Akwa Ibom South Federal Constituency, Nelson Effiong, from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
In December 2015, a former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, defected to the APC in Enugu alongside a former senator, Fidelis Okoro, and another chieftain of PDP, Richard Ozobu, while in November 2015, a two-term governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, also left the PDP for APC.
But explaining his reasons for the defection, the former Senate president said on Sunday that he joined the APC because of pressure from his people.
He said his decision was to serve the interest of his people.
