Journalist and media consultant, Dahiru Kera, has declared intention to contest Nafada South State Assembly seat in the forthcoming general election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gombe State.

Mr Kera made the declaration in Biri during a meeting with the party officials, explaining that his decision was informed by a call by youth groups from the constituency urging him to contest for the position.

While speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, Mr Kera said he accepted the call of the youths and elders of the constituency to throw in the hat so as to consolidate on the gains of democracy achieved by the current administration led by the state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo.

“I accept wholeheartedly the call from the able people of this proud constituency to join the race because I am eligible, experienced in politics and sufficiently educated.

“Let me assure us that this decision was not taken lightly, it was reached only after deep consultations with family, friends, political allies and associates who encouraged me to declare,” he said.

The PDP ward chairmen in the constituency congratulated Mr Kera for declaring to contest, saying the people at the grassroots deserved to be represented by only courageous, ambitious and determined fellow such as Mr Kera.

“Today, we welcome you because you are one of our most committed members whose dedication and contribution to the party survival and promotion of the viable programmes and policies of the administration of our leader, Governor Dankwambo while also defending the party in the media is unequivocal,” they stated.

In his remarks, a top member of the party in the constituency, Jalo Makanike said, “Mr Kera is a true democrat and a friend of the people of the constituency and they have vowed to come out en masse to support him so as to ensure good governance and sustain the gains and dividends that come with democracy in the state. The time for Kera is now as there none better than him.”

On his part, the District Head of Birin Bolawa, Mohammed Kwairanga Abubakar, extolled Mr Kera’s philanthropic gestures in the area of education, especially purchase of UTME forms for prospective students which he believed if given the chance to represent the constituency, he will do more for the People.

Jalo Baushe, a party youth leader who spoke on behalf of the youths, said 2019 is the year of the youth and there’s none better than Sa’in Birin Fulani to bear the gauntlet on behalf of the youth and the entire community.
