The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Tuesday, embarked on comprehensive inspection of the ongoing developments at the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State.

This is contained in a statement by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, made available to journalists in Lagos.

Mr Moshood said Keyamo was a guest of the Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Eno, on Tuesday, and was impressed by the progress recorded on the project.

He said the tour was guided by Governor Eno.

Mr Moshood said that the minister commended the state government’s remarkable achievements in aviation infrastructure.

He said Keyamo applauded the near completion of the New Terminal building, hailing it as the best terminal facility constructed by any sub-national entity in Nigeria.

The special adviser noted that the state-of-the-art terminal was equipped to handle both domestic and international flight operations simultaneously.

He said it was showcasing the Akwa Ibom Government’s commitment to advancing aviation capabilities.

He said that the minister highlighted the strategic significance of the airport’s Maintenance, Repairs, and Overhaul, MRO, facility.

Mr Moshood quoted Mr Keyamo as describing the facility as the first of its kind in the country, adding that the MRO would serve not only Nigeria but the entirety of West, East, and North Africa.

“Governor Eno’s dedication to the completion of these pioneering projects received special acknowledgment from the Aviation Minister.

“The inspection covered key areas such as the MRO, the upcoming terminal building and the newly constructed taxiway, all of which contribute to the airport’s growing prominence.

“In light of the ambitious developments, Governor Eno is actively seeking collaboration with the Federal Government to fully harness the airport’s potential.

“The prospect of utilising the airport’s state-of-the-art facilities for the benefit of the nation aligns with the government’s broader vision for advancing the aviation sector.

“The Akwa Ibom Government’s commitment to aviation development, as recognised by the Aviation Minister, marks a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure and positions Victor Attah International Airport as a pivotal hub for air travel across the African continent,” the special adviser added.
