The kidnapped staff of the University of Abuja, Dr Nura Lawal, has regained freedom after payment N4million ransom by the family.
Mr Lawal, who was kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna highway, was freed Thursday night after intense negotiation with the family.
“We initially thought they killed him when they switched off the line, following our inability to raise the N10million they demanded,” a family source told DAILY NIGERIAN.
“As at noon today, we were only able to raise N3million. Later when they switched on the phone and asked him to call his mother to bid her farewell, we used the opportunity to tell them that N4million was raised.
“So they agreed that that the money be delivered immediately to a specific location.”
Abuja-Kaduna expressway has become notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery despite deployment of 600 special police to the road.
