Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked Iye village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 18 people.
The village is said to be behind Joseph Sarwuaan Tarka University, Makurdi, JOSTUM.
The residents of the village told Daily Trust newspaper that the incident happened on Sunday at about 7 p.m.
Confirming the attack, Christopher Waku, the security adviser of Guma LGA, said 18 people were killed and many others were wounded during the incident.
Mr Waku said: “18 people were killed at Iye village in Guma LGA yesterday (Sunday) between 6-7pm. The village is after UniAgric, JOSTUM.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Catherine Anene, also confirmed the attack.
Mrs Anene, however, said that seven bodies were recovered on Monday morning, while one of the attackers was also killed.
