52 killed, over 100 injured by fire in Myanmar from Jan-May

Myanmar’s fire services department on Thursday, announced that 52 people were killed and 116 others injured from January to May.

The department’s figures showed a total of 875 fire accidents occurred during the January-May period, causing damage of over 13.47 billion kyats (over 6.41 million U.S. dollars).

In May, the Southeast Asian country saw 130 fire accidents with one death and 15 injuries.

Most of the fire outbreaks during May occurred in Yangon Region, followed by Bago Region, Mandalay Region, and Shan State respectively.

The causes of the fire accidents included stove fire, negligence, faulty electrical wiring, arson, forest fire, and lightning, it said.

Official figures also showed that in 2022, 96 people were killed and 139 others injured in 1,507 fire accidents in the Southeast Asian country.
