Maryam Sanda, who allegedly stabbed her husband Bilyamin Bello to death, said she is three-month pregnant.
She told a Federal High Court in Jabi on Monday that she should be released on bail in view of her condition.
Mrs Sanda, whose trial started on Monday, asked the presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu, to accede to her earlier application for bail.
Joseph Daudu, Sanda’s lawyer, asked that the judge to have sympathy on his client and grant her bail to seek proper medical attention for her pregnancy.
The prosecuting counsel, James Idachaba, however opposed the bail application, stating that the claim of Sanda’s 3-month pregnancy had to be proved, as the evidence provided was insufficient.
Justice Halilu adjourned the case until Wednesday to determine whether the court would grant Mrs Sanda bail on the basis of her pregnancy claim.
