Killer of 5-year-old boy in Kano arrested – Police

Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of the suspected kidnapper of a five-year-old boy, Hamza Harisu, who was abducted and killed in the process of collecting ransom.

The father of the deceased child had reported the incident to the police, saying that the abductors demanded N20million as ransom.

On receipt of the report, according to a statement on Thursday by the spokesman of the state command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, raised a team of Operation Restore Peace led by CSP Bala Shu’aibu to arrest the culprit.

The statement read: “On 28/10/2022 at about 17:00 hours, a report was received from a resident of Doguwa Local Government, Kano State that, his son, Hamza Harisu,  5 years old, was kidnapped and a ransom of N20 million was demanded by the kidnapper(s) and later, negotiated at N5 million.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Abubakar Lawal, fdc, raised a team of Operation Restore Peace, led by CSP Bala Shu’aibu, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Doguwa Division to arrest the culprit(s).

“Sustained efforts, coupled with intelligence-led follow-up, led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ado Ibrahim, 29 years old, of Yantama Village, Doguwa Local Government, Kano State and three others. The principal suspect was arrested at his hideout.

“On preliminary investigation, the suspect, Ado Ibrahim, confessed that he singlehandedly kidnapped the victim on 27/10/2022 at about 1900 hours when it was dark. That he deceived the victim, took him to a nearby bush and strangled him to death.

“Later, the corpse was discovered by a team of Police detectives, thereafter moved to Doguwa General Hospital for Medical Examination where the Doctor confirmed him dead.

“Later, some disgruntled youth went for reprisal, and subsequently burnt down the houses of the arrested suspects already at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.

“Discreet Investigation into the cases is in progress,” Mr Kiyawa added.
