The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, is under fire for stepping on the picture of his predecessor and estranged political ally, Rabiu Kwankwaso, at a rally in Kano.

Leading a rally to mark June 12 Democracy Day and receiving some defectors at Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabongari, Kano, the governor stepped on Mr Kwankwaso’s picture in the capacity-filled arena.

But the governor is receiving condemnation for the act, from both supporters and critics.

One of the governor’s supporters and former commissioner for Works in the state, Muazu Magaji, faulted the governor’s action, saying it is unbecoming of his position as a leader.

“Noooo your Excellency, pls no! Whoever advised this as an act of political opposition or more appropriately a demonstration of conquest, vanquish or authority doesn’t know politics enough and how it spins. This act I’m sorry to say Sir, is petty and not right, coming from an elder and our leader like yourself. Your Excellency, no matter what happens, Kwankwaso was a former governor, minister of the Federal Republic and deputy speaker of the National assembly and a distinguished senator of the Federation… and today a major (confused) political actor in the Federation from Kano State. Sir, RMK was also through divine timing and design happened to be your former boss as governor when you were his deputy governor and SA as minister. Your Excellency, this act is sending wrong message and sadly will come back to haunt us as a party and government. Just imagine how I will feel if I see this happening to His Excellency Abdullahi Umar Ganduje after he leaves office. For the record, we fought SLS for his disrespect for the position age and status of HE AU Ganduje in Kano,” Mr Magaji said in part.

Another commenter, Mohammed Jamu, said “It’s a pity at your age Ganduje this is what you consider as political supremacy. Stepping on the picture of His Excellency the chief Promoter of Education, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The man who God in his infinite mercy used to promote you to the level you are today, from Deputy Governor in 1999-2003 to his SA when he was Defense Minister, to the Executive Secretary Lake Tchad Basin, and back again as his deputy 2011-2015, before single handedly nominating you to serve as Kano Governor. My message to u in clear terms is what you sow you will surely reap. May Allah bless us all in good health and long life to see that day. When all those advising you will turn against you. Thank God for the life of HE Kwankwaso the architect of education.”

Another Facebooker Usman Ali Basuguma said, “Even an APC man in Kano will look at this picture and understands the director of this movie is quack and unprofessional… Ganduje your obsession for Kwankwaso will surely consume you. You have been a governor of 6 years now but the man passed you with real followers YAN AKEEDA multiple times… 2023 go verify this my Post… BAMU FARA DON MU DAINA BA.”

Tosin Anthony Fapohunda in his post said, “So governor Abdullahi Ganduje actually stood on a pamphlet displaying his former boss’s picture, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a sign of conquest. Politics and politicians can be so petty eehn. Whoever advised him to do this is a baby politician. Those cheering him on should as well remember that one day, someone else we don’t know today might do more than this to Ganduje and the internet that never forgets will remind him of this day. Nigerians still remember the GanDollar case hanging on his neck because we shall ask how far about it after at the expiration of his immunity as a governor.”

Aliu Bala Alaunle said, “Gov. Umar Ganduje, stepping on a picture of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (his former boss).”
