The deputy governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba has filed an application before the state’s High Court, Lokoja, challenging the purported impeachment notice served on him by the assembly.
Mr Achuba, in the suit, claimed that the impeachment notice was served out of time and marred with irregularities.
The date for the hearing is, however, yet to be fixed by the court.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Achuba had been at loggerheads with his principal, Governor Yahaya Bello over an alleged political difference.
It could be recalled that the state’s House of Assembly served impeachment proceeding notice on the deputy governor over allegations of criminal indulgence, financial misappropriation and non-performance.
Before this, DAILY NIGERIAN reported that the deputy had alleged that Governor Yahaya Bello was after his life, claiming that the governor had mobilised gunmen to attack him.
This is aside a threat to sue the governor over alleged withholding of his salaries and all other financial benefits from 2017 till date by the governor.
Recall that in a letter addressed to the governor, Mr Achuba’s lawyer, Femi Falana, said if the allowances were not paid within seven days, he would be left with no option other than to approach the court.
According to the letter, the backlog of travel allowances, hotel bills, pledges and outstanding monthly imp rest and salaries entitled to him amounts to N819,709,980.
