A former governor of Kano State and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Saturday shunned the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC convention to visit a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
Sources close to the former governor confirmed the visit to DAILY NIGERIAN, saying the duo entered into a private meeting at the Abuja residence of the former vice president at 8:30pm.
Details of the meeting are sketchy but inside sources said it was about Mr Kwankwaso’s planned defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“Atiku is rebuilding his political base nationwide and is trying to bring heavyweight politicians into his fold. This is one of the reasons he extended invitation to Kwankwaso,” said a source who preferred not to be named.
Speculations are rife that Mr Kwankwaso, a leading member of the Kawu Baraje-led “new PDP”, will dump the APC any moment as the national leadership of the party failed to ratify the parallel congress conducted by his faction in Kano State.
Last week President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly called the bluff of the leadership of the nPDP by denying them audience over their threat to leave the party.
