Ex-Labour Minister, Musa Gwadabe, dies at 87

A former Minister of Labour and Productivity during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa Gwadabe, has died at the age of 87.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the late elder statesman died in Kano in the early hours of Wednesday.

Late Gwadabe was born in Dambatta on 10th May, 1936.

He went to famous Kano Middle School (The Rumfa College), Zaria Co-operative Training Centre, New York Business School and Fort Lauderdale University Florida in USA.

He began his working career with Local Education Authority as Primary school teacher and moved to Kano Native authority as finance clerk.

From 1964-68 he worked as Co-operative Inspector with social and co-operative ministry, and as depot supervisor Northern Nigeria Marketing Board.

After one-year sojourn in USA as salesman with SEARS and Roeback, he joined the ministry of trade as commercial officer, group estate manager KSIP as well as Investment Executive before he was appointed Secretary to the civilian government of PRP from 1981-1984.

During the military era, Mr Gwadabe was appointed Director and chairman at Nigerian Coal Corporation and National Economic Reconstruction Fund NERFUD respectively between 1990-1994.

In the year 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister of Solid Minerals Development and later reassigned him to the Ministry of Employment, Labor and Productivity.

Mr Gwadabe was a recipient of numerous awards and honors, among which are the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR, and the HADIMIN KANO, HKN.

Late Gwadabe was a long-time associate of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
