Suspected Lakurawa insurgents have reportedly killed at least 13 members of a vigilante group during an attack in Maori community, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to Daily Trust reports, the incident occurred after the vigilantes tried to resist the terrorists while rustling cattle from the community.
A source within the community, locally identified as Ibrahim Augie, told the newspaper that the vigilante members in their numbers had come out to repel the terrorists’ attack in the village, but the terrorists had already encircled them, killing 13 of them.
He said: “The vigilantes hid to attack and recapture the rustled cattle, but they didn’t know the Lakurawa had already seen them, and they were shot and killed,” he said.
Efforts to get the reaction of spokesman of the Kebbi State command of the Nigeria Police Force, Nafiu Abubakar, were unsuccessful.
