Thousands of people on Friday attended the funeral prayer of late Wazirin Sokoto, Usman Junaidu, who died at the age of 85.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the funeral prayer, which was conduced at Sultan Muhammadu Bello mosque after Jumu’at prayer, was led by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Malami Bello-Akwara.
The deceased was later buried at his home in Gidadawa area of Sokoto, where other Waziris’ were buried.
Among those in attendance were Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, a former governor of the state Aliyu Wamakko, Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Bashar, business mogul, Umarun Kabo and APC chieftain, Inuwa Abdulkadir among others.
Thousands of mourners have been trooping to the Sultan Palace to condole him over the demise of his Chief Adviser.
Junaidu, the 12th Waziri of Sokoto is survived by two wives, 12 children and many grand children.
Among the children are: Abdulkadir Junaidu, a professor and director University Development, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto; Abubakar Junaidu and Junaidu Junaidu, both directors in the Sokoto State Civil Service.
The deceased attended Al’azhar University Cairo, Egypt and served as principal Mahmud Gumi Memorial College and as a director in the state ministry of education.
He was also at one time the chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, now in Kebbi.
Late Junaidu was turbaned the 12th Wazirin Sokoto in January 1997.
