The family of Leah Sharibu, the lone Dapchi schoolgirl still in Boko Haram captivity, on Thursday, commended Federal Government for the support to secure the release of Leah.
Mrs Grace Samuel, nephew to Leah, made the commendation in Dapchi, during distribution of food items and livelihood packages to 40 families of the abducted schoolgirls by Yobe Government.
She said that the Yobe Government was following the footsteps of Federal Government in taking care of families of the schoolgirls.
Samuel said “the show of love and concern to the Sharibu family and the schoolgirls has rekindled our hope in the release of our daughter.
“Government has given us a sense of belonging and hope for Leah’s reunion with her family.
“Government has made us not to lose hope in Leah’s return from her captors: we appreciate the sense of commitment and assistance to the family.”
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that, Yobe Fadama III Additional Funding II, provided food and livelihood package to 2,000 victims of insurgency in Yobe, including 40 families of the abducted schoolgirls.
Musa Garba, the State Fadama III Project Coordinator, said 5,320 households were earlier supported under the first phase of intervention to facilitate resettlement and rehabilitation of families affected by insurgency.
He said that the intervention included 214 water pumps, 2,000 bags of rice and maize flour each, 554 litres of fertilizer and herbicides each.
Others include 10,000 sheep and goats, 22 bulls, 227 liters of insecticide and assorted seeds.
Mr Garba said savings made from the first phase of such intervention accommodated the 2,000 households benefiting under the current initiative.
According to him, Dapchi, Damaya, Dumburi, Masaba and Ajiri communities in Bursari Local Government of Yobe had enjoyed support, including agriculture, livestock, drainage system and water facilities.
He said that the food support included rice, maize, flour, beans, cooking oil, sugar and seasoning cubes.
The coordinator added that “the project provided each of the beneficiaries with four sheep and a ram or one he-goat and four she-goats, wheat offal for animal feed, as livelihood packages.”
He then appealed to the Yobe Government for payment of the 2018 counterpart fund for the state to access more resources from World Bank to support rehabilitation of more victims of insurgency in the state.
