A vigilante group at Bakin Kura quarters in the Bauchi state capital has arrested a butcher, Safiyanu Aminu, for allegedly selling meat of dead animals to the unsuspecting public.
Parading the suspect before journalists in Bauchi, the ‘discipline officer’ of the group, Yakubu Ibrahim, said the arrest followed information they received on the activities of the butcher.
Mr Ibrahim said the suspect had for long been ‘cheating’ his customers by selling meat products he cut from carcasses.
The suspect, Safiyanu Aminu, admitted his offence but apologized to the public, claiming that it was the act of the Satan.
Reacting to the development, the chairman of Nigeria Butchers Association, Bauchi local government chapter, Baba Uba, expressed gratitude to the vigilante group for apprehending the culprit.
Mr Uba said the association had never recorded such case by any of its registered members.
