Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State on Friday received no less than 50,000 members of the All Progressive Congress who defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
A statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on media and communication, Zailani Bappa said the defectors were loyalists of Sani Jaja, a former member of the National Assembly and Mr Matawalle’s opponent during the 2019 governorship election in the state.
The spokesperson of the defectors, Sani Abdullahi, who was the secretary, Sani Jaja Campaign Organization, said their decision to defect to the party was taken out of good faith, “after becoming convinced that Matawalle was the best option for Zamfara State”.

“We left Sani Jaja Campaign Organization for Matawalle because it has become glaring that Jaja was not the man for the job against Matawalle,” Mr Abdullahi stated.
In his reaction, Governor Matawalle commended their foresight and promised to carry them along like any other PDP member in the state.
“You have indeed shone the light for those who still feel there is any one among my opponents who is qualified enough to earn their confidence.
“Let them think again”, Governor Matawalle charged.
The governor stressed that the confidence he gets from Zamfara people gingers him for more commitment to do more for the good of the state.
