The governor’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement signed on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa.
The statement noted that Mr Matawalle and the Zamfara people were excited by the appointment, “considering the fact that Justice Lawal is the first indigene of the state to occupy such exalted position as a Justice of the Supreme Court”.
According to the governor, the elevation was well deserved, adding that Justice Lawal-Garba has proven himself as an upright judicial officer throughout his working career without any blemish.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of the state, I wish to congratulate Your Lordship, Justice Mohammed Lawal-Garba, for your elevation to the position of a Supreme Court Judge, ” Mr Matawalle said.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Justice Lawal-Garba, who is also the Shettiman Maru had his Primary and Secondary School education at Demonstration Primary School in Maru and Science Secondary School in Gusau respectively.
He acquired his University degree in Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was called to the Nigerian Bar after his one year training at the Nigerian Law School.
He has worked in Sokoto State and in Zamfara state as a Chief Judge before moving to the Federal High Court.
Later, he was elevated to the position of a Judge at the Federal Court of Appeal.
He was the Chairman of the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal for 2019.
