Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in the state, following the abduction of no fewer than 317 schoolgirls at the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe.
The governor gave the order on Friday during a state-wide broadcast at the Government House, Gusau.
While sympathising with the parents of the kidnapped female students, the governor assured of the safe return of the abductees.
According to him, helicopters have been sent to the state for rescue operations.
“We shall not compromise insecurity bedeviling our state and we are commending the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for the unflinching support to my administration in an effort to find a lasting solution of the insecurity bedeviling our state,” he added.
